Project "Integrated urban transport of the city of Dupnitsa" will modernize transport mobility and reduce air pollution in the city

Project "Integrated urban transport of the city of Dupnitsa" will modernize transport mobility and reduce air pollution in the city
An automated traffic management and control system will be implemented, new low-floor vehicles accessible to people with disabilities, a rehabilitated road network and sidewalks will be purchased.

The Municipality of Dupnitsa is implementing the project "Integrated Urban Transport of the City of Dupnitsa", which is implemented with the financial support of the Operational Program "Growing Regions" 2014-2020, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund. At a press conference on December 14, the municipal administration and the project team will present the goals, activities and expected results.

The beneficiary of the project is the Municipality of Dupnitsa. The total value of the project is BGN 7,042,899.05, as the value of the financial support of the Operational Program “Growing Regions” 2014-2020 is BGN 6,834,999.05.

 

The project envisages a set of investments aimed at improving the public transport system in the town of Dupnitsa, and will lead to:

1. Positive impact on the environment by reducing air pollution and improving the characteristics of the vehicles used;

2. Encouraging the use of public transport at the expense of private cars, by improving transport services and raising quality standards, improving speed and throughput;

3. Promoting multimodal sustainable urban mobility by creating opportunities for walking;

4. Reduction of the travel time of vehicles and passengers, without deterioration of the traffic conditions;

5. Improving safety and mobility.

6. Improving the speed and quality of public transport services, thus encouraging more people to prefer their services to car transport.

7. Improving the permeability of intersections;

8. Improving accessibility - providing low-floor vehicles for people with disabilities, facilitating access to public transport stops, as well as sound indication of the vehicles themselves;

The objectives of the project are in line with the national, regional and municipal strategies related to the overall territorial and spatial development, as well as those related to the transport sector listed above.

The specific objectives of the project include:

· Implementation of an automated system for traffic management and control;

· Implementation of a system for information of passengers in real time, by introducing remotely replaceable electronic information boards at the stops;

· Improving the accessibility of city bus stops;

· Development and improvement of the system for public urban transport, by purchasing buses that comply with the European regulations for harmful emissions from engines;

· Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the street network;

· Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the transport infrastructure through renovation of the base for repair, maintenance and equipment of the rolling stock;

· Construction / reconstruction / rehabilitation of sidewalks, as part of the integrated urban transport system;

· Improving the connections between integrated urban transport and intercity bus and rail transport;

· Introduction of low-floor vehicles accessible to people with disabilities, as well as sound marking of the vehicles themselves;

· Development of an infrastructural route network with new lines, providing transport connection for the more remote southern regions of the city to the central and northern parts.

 

The project "Integrated urban transport of the town of Dupnitsa" started in May 2017 and lasts for 21 months.

With the successful implementation of the project, the residents and guests of Dupnitsa will have an urban infrastructure offering better quality traffic and conditions for comfortable transport.
